ITALIFTERS at CFT: lifting equipment for manhole covers
A cast iron manhole cover can be opened with a hook and your back, once. With twenty manholes in a day it is the tool that decides whether the gang is still standing straight in the evening. ITALIFTERS builds lifting equipment for manhole covers and heavy covers: magnetic lifters, roller levers, mechanical lever tools and barriers for the open hole. At CFT these are the first items out of the vehicle before every sewer survey.

The ITALIFTERS range
Magnetic lifters of the XT range
The XT range sits on the face of the cover instead of levering at the edge. The choice is decided by two cases. The lone engineer who carries the lifter in the vehicle equipment and takes it out several times a day takes a NANO version; for it there is a shoulder bag as a separate item. The gang working continuously on heavy traffic covers takes the larger types in the range. What counts is the load capacity against the heaviest cover in your stock, and only then the weight of the lifter itself. The complete list of types is in the shop; which type suits your covers we settle beforehand on the telephone.
CL range and ATEX versions
The CL range solves the same task in a different form. ATEX versions of it and of the XT1 NANO are available for manholes in which flammable gases are to be expected. Which version is required depends on the zone classification of your operation.
Permanent magnets, roller levers and lever trolleys
The PM range are permanent magnets, the APS range works as a roller lever, foldable and wheeled, and in addition there is the lever trolley of the LK range. This group is the choice when covers have to be not only opened but moved aside over a distance.
Mechanical lever tools and cover release tools
The LB range levers covers on which a magnet does not grip. In addition there are the set of mechanical hooks, the lever clamp with connecting bridge, the slide hammer, the cover release tool and the multi-function tool. This is the tool for the manhole that has not been open for years.
Manhole guarding and accessories
The AC90 is a safety grid against falls into open manholes, FLEXXY an extendable barrier with high visibility, SAFEGATE a folding safety grid. Sound-damping wedges, a shoulder bag for the XT1 NANO and anti-magnetic protective bags complete the range.

What these instruments are used for
Before every CCTV drainage survey and every 3D lateral survey the manhole has to be opened. The same applies before the drain and pipe cleaning, at the heavy access covers of service reservoir cleaning and in spring main locating, where manholes lie out in open ground and are seldom maintained. We therefore know the difference between the lifter that looks good in the brochure and the one that still holds after two years on site.
Selection and instruction
CFT gives on-site instruction on every electrical instrument bought from us, without your having to travel; the training page names Radiodetection, Schonstedt, Pearpoint, Springbok, CamTronics and F.A.S.T as examples, along with further products from the range. With lifting equipment the work comes before the purchase: a magnetic lifter has no configuration, but it does have a point of application. What it can do shows itself at the cover, not at a control panel. We therefore go through your types of cover – cast iron, concrete, composite, jammed or seized – say which series will lift the heaviest of them, which tool you need for the covers next to them and what guarding goes with it. That costs a telephone call on +43 (0) 2252 53169 or an email to office@cft.at and saves the wrong order.
Frequently asked questions
Magnetic lifter or mechanical lever?
A magnet grips only on ferromagnetic material, that is on cast iron covers. For concrete, plastic and composite covers the LB range, the set of mechanical hooks and the ES1 cover release tool do the job. Anyone who has both in their stock has both in the vehicle.
What is different about the ATEX versions?
The CL10 ATEX, CL11 ATEX and XT1 NANO ATEX are the variants for areas with a possible explosive atmosphere. Which version is required depends on the zone classification of your operation.
Can I get accessories and spare parts separately?
Yes. The shoulder bag, anti-magnetic protective bags, the connecting bridge for the BT95 lever clamp and the set of mechanical hooks are separate items in the shop.
How do I guard the open manhole?
That is what the AC90, FLEXXY and SAFEGATE are for: fall protection, a visible barrier around the working area and a folding grid for the vehicle. Which combination makes sense depends on whether you are working in the highway or on an industrial site.
