Sensors and Software at CFT: ground penetrating radar systems and processing software

Ground penetrating radar answers the question at which every electromagnetic locator fails: what lies in the ground that does not conduct electricity? Sensors and Software builds the radar systems with which plastic pipes, concrete structures and voids can be imaged without digging. At CFT these instruments travel over construction sites and factory floors before anyone puts the excavator to work.

Official dealer for Austria and southern Germany

CFT Group GmbH in Traiskirchen and CFT Group Deutschland GmbH, Lange Zeile 27, D-85435 Erding, are the official dealer for this brand in Austria and southern Germany. In practice that means: you order within the German-speaking area, the handling runs through the group shop SEMPERDEAL, advice and documentation come in German. No detour via a foreign distributor, no translation loop when there is a technical query. Your contact is the same crew that has the systems in use: +43 (0) 2252 53169, Mon to Thu 8:00–16:30, Fri 8:00–12:00, or office@cft.at.

The Sensors and Software range

The LMX range for locating in the field

The LMX100 basic ground penetrating radar 250MHz and the LMX150 professional system (500MHz) cover the work for which ground penetrating radar is needed in utility construction: driving systematically over an area and seeing what lies beneath. The LMX100 works at 250 MHz, the LMX150 at 500 MHz – the antenna frequency is in the article title, not in the type number: the LMX200, for which we carry accessories here, is likewise at 250 MHz despite the higher number. Which frequency suits depends on your subsoil and on whether you are investigating deep routes or densely occupied areas.

Conquest 100 as a system in its own right

Alongside the LMX range the range carries the Conquest 100 as a system in its own right. For which tasks it is the better choice, we settle on the actual object instead of asserting it here.

Processing and positioning

A radar trace is not yet a result. EKKO-Project Core V6 is the software that turns the recorded passes into a readable presentation. The external GPS rover for LMX200 or LMX150 attaches the survey to coordinates. Only then does a survey run become a data set for the GIS instead of a mark on the tarmac.

Transport and protection

A radar system spends most of its time in the vehicle. For that there is the transport case for LMX100, LMX150 and LMX200, the case for the LMX100/200 display and the carrying bag for display and accessories. A broken display costs a working day on site.

What these instruments are used for

In site and route utility clearance surveys we lay a grid over the area and drive it off; plastic services, foundations and backfilled cellars come up in the process that no cable locator finds. In pipe and utility detection radar supplements the electromagnetic search where the pipe carries no trace. For the cable and pipe utility asset record for GIS the findings are surveyed in; in spring main locating radar helps in undeveloped terrain without manholes and plans. We therefore know the places where a radar image is unambiguous, and those where it is not.

On-site instruction and training

CFT offers instrument instruction directly on site for every electrical instrument you buy from us. Our team comes to you and introduces operation and application in a practical way, in your familiar surroundings. In addition there is the advanced module Route locating and utility detection using ground penetrating radar (GPR): six hours, theory and practice, no more than three participants per trainer; the prerequisites are the basic module Cable and pipe locating and the module Electromagnetic cable and pipe locating and sonde location.

Service, repair and calibration

Sensors and Software is held in CFT’s repair form as a manufacturer; repair, service and calibration can be selected. Register the case in advance: fill in the repair form, enclose it with the parcel or send it digitally in advance to support@semperdeal.com. That speeds up data capture and diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

LMX100 or LMX150 – what do I decide on?

On the ground and on the task. The decisive factor is the antenna frequency: 250 MHz for the LMX100, 500 MHz for the LMX150. What that means for your subsoil, we go through before the order using your actual application.

Do I need EKKO-Project in addition to the instrument?

Only if you want to process surveys further and pass them on. Anyone who marks in the field and closes the matter with that manages without it. As soon as results are documented or handed over to third parties, processing at the computer is the quicker way.

Can I transfer the radar data into our GIS?

That is what the external GPS rover is for. Without a coordinate reference a survey remains a snapshot. Tell us before purchase which formats your GIS environment expects, and we will check the chain through to the export.

Does the accessory also fit an LMX200 that I already have?

Transport case and GPS rover are expressly designated in the range for the LMX100, LMX150 and LMX200. For anything that is not stated in the article title, please enquire quoting the serial number.

Can I hire a ground penetrating radar before I buy?

The group shop currently carries only two hire items, both from Radiodetection: the complete C.A.T4+ set with GENNY4 and the complete RD8XXX set with Tx10. For the ground penetrating radar systems from Sensors and Software no hire item is listed. What we offer in any case is the on-site instruction after purchase.

Ask for advice

We advise before you order.

Tell us what it is about – an instrument, accessories, a spare part or advice. We will tell you what these instruments can do.

What happens next

  1. We check whether the instrument fits your task – and tell you if it does not.
  2. You receive an offer including instruction; service and calibration where we hold the manufacturer’s authorisation.
  3. On request we demonstrate it on a real case beforehand.
