Why on site

You practise on the pipe you will be looking for again tomorrow.

We have been locating ourselves since 1993. What we teach, we have done on the same instrument and the same ground build-up as you.

Right at your business

No day of travel and no rescheduling: we come to your business and work on your network.

Practice, not slides

Theory and exercise in one pass, tied directly to the jobs you do anyway.

Built on one another

The core module first, the advanced modules on top. What makes no sense without the basics, we tell you in advance.

How a training course comes about

  1. You get in touch

With subject, number of participants and location. Individual training or a group – both work.

  2. We put it together

The core module first, then the advanced modules that fit your network. The prerequisites are stated with every module.

  3. We come to your site

Theory and exercise in one pass, on your own pipes and cables. Content and dates are agreed beforehand.

Training in Pipe and Cable Location

9 modules
Fundamentals of Pipe and Cable Location Core module · 2 hrs

Overview of active and passive location methods, signal physics and operational limits. Passive search methods: passive radio and current measurement (50 Hz / radio), CPS/CPC measurement on gas pipes. Systematic large-area search using a grid pattern – first passive pre-location, then targeted active signal injection. Difference between signal injection methods: direct connection (galvanic/clamp) and signal clamp – you know which infrastructure is being traced. Inductive injection with the transmitter placed on the line – you do not know what is being traced. With passive reception there is also no certainty about the type of line. Practical field tips for pipe and cable location.

Afterwards participants can:

  • Distinguish and correctly apply passive and active methods
  • Understand passive radio and current measurement and CPS/CPC
  • Plan grid search: passive pre-location, then active injection
  • Distinguish direct connection, signal clamp and inductive injection
  • Identify typical sources of error and interference signals
  • Apply safety rules and practical field tips

Acoustic Pipe Location Advanced module · 2 hrs

Location of plastic and cast-iron pipes without their own conductor. Use of geophones and the tap technique (also called “woodpecker”): an electromagnetically driven pin strikes the water column, generating an acoustic signal and structure-borne sound that travels along the pipe and is detectable at the surface with a geophone. Safety notes for different pipe types: with old asbestos cement (AC) pipes an overly strong strike can cause the pipe to break.

Afterwards participants can:

  • Understand sound propagation in pipelines
  • Apply geophone and tap technique (woodpecker) in practice
  • Safely locate plastic and cast-iron pipes

Individual and group training are both possible. Content, modules and dates are matched to your needs – tell us what your people work with every day.

What happens next

  1. We suggest the modules that build on one another – and say what makes no sense without the core module.
  2. You receive date, duration and costs before anything is fixed.
  3. Training takes place at your premises, on your pipes, cables and instruments.
