Service reservoir cleaning and disinfection in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland

Sediment on the compartment floor, deposits on walls and ceiling and microbiological loads have to be removed where the water stands: in the service reservoir. Cleaning is mechanical, at the customer’s request chemically as well with food-safe agents, and is followed by disinfection – carried out together with Schermann GmbH, with whom we have a partnership for cleaning and disinfection work. Before the return to service comes the microbiological final check. Report the reservoir on +43 (0) 2252 53169 or in writing to office@cft.at, and we will settle the number of compartments, taking out of service and the appointment.

What we do on site

Cleaning and disinfection are carried out together with Schermann GmbH, with whom we have a partnership for the purpose. Cleaning is done compartment by compartment; for that the compartment goes out of service and is drained. The order is fixed: only once the surface is clear do the following steps take effect; before the return to service comes the microbiological final check. Structural irregularities we name, we do not repair them.

For water suppliers

Cleaning the reservoir is the appointment in the year at which you see what has settled in your storage – planned, because one compartment goes out of service and supply has to be maintained through the second compartment or an alternative feed. Pre-cleaning, chemical cleaning on request and disinfection run in one pass, carried out by CFT together with Schermann GmbH; the condition before and after the work is recorded photographically.

For you as a business

Industrial drinking water storage tanks, works reservoirs and installations in individual buildings are subject to the same hygiene requirements as municipal reservoirs, but usually have no second compartment; the appointment therefore has to fall in a production break or be covered by an alternative supply. For framework agreements, reservoir hygiene can be described as a recurring item by number of compartments and volume.

How the job runs

1. Plan taking the compartment out of service. It is determined which compartment is drained down and when, how supply runs during that time and where the flushing water can be discharged. Access, lighting and ventilation of the reservoir are clarified in advance.

2. Pre-clean mechanically. After draining down, sediment, deposits and coarse contamination are removed from the floor, walls and internal fittings. Only once the surface is clear do the following steps take effect.

3. Clean chemically and disinfect. At the customer’s request, the chemical main cleaning with food-safe cleaning agents follows. The compartment is then disinfected to remove microbiological loads.

4. Final check and return to service. After flushing comes the microbiological final check. Only then does the compartment go back into service.

Equipment and methods

Mechanical pre-cleaning

What has settled is removed first: sand, silt and coarse contamination on the compartment floor as well as deposits on walls and internal fittings. This step decides the outcome of the whole cleaning, because agents do not reach the substrate through a coated surface – it removes deposits, not germs.

Chemical main cleaning with food-safe agents

At the customer’s request, a chemical cleaning with food-safe agents follows; it loosens adherent deposits and is then flushed out completely. Where the coating is damaged, the finding is documented instead of working the surface further.

Disinfection with Mirasan®

After cleaning, the compartment is disinfected to remove microbiological loads. What is used is Mirasan®, made by Schermann GmbH – that is, by the firm with which we carry out reservoir hygiene together. The agent comes in several variants; which one is used is decided by the kind of soiling that shows itself in the drained compartment, not by a standard recipe.

Disinfection acts on the cleaned surface, not through deposits – which is why the order of the steps is not negotiable.

Microbiological final check

Before the return to service the compartment is checked microbiologically. The finding applies to the moment of sampling; everything after that is a matter for network operations.

What you receive

The service is the cleaning and disinfection itself; documentation is available on request. Structural irregularities we notice – cracks, damaged coatings, corroded internal fittings – we tell you about. We do not repair them.

Costs and effort

The effort depends on the number of compartments, volume, accessibility, degree of contamination and on whether chemical cleaning is wanted. We agree the cost range with you by telephone before the job, together with the question of how long the compartment may be out of service.

Frequently asked questions

Does supply have to be interrupted during cleaning?

As a rule not, if a second compartment is available. If there is only one, the appointment is placed in a period of low demand or an alternative feed is agreed.

Who carries out the cleaning?

For cleaning and disinfection work we work together with Schermann GmbH; the partnership exists for exactly these jobs. The disinfectant comes from there as well: Mirasan® is made by Schermann themselves. For you it remains one appointment and one procedure.

Is chemical cleaning always necessary?

No. Mechanical cleaning is the basic step; chemical main cleaning is carried out at the customer’s request and makes sense where deposits are adherent.

Is the compartment germ-free after cleaning?

No. Drinking water is never germ-free. What is checked is something else: whether the compartment meets the microbiological requirements after the treatment.

What happens if the final check is conspicuous?

Then the compartment does not go into service. The finding is recorded, and we settle the further course of action with you.

Do I also get a statement on the structural condition?

Yes, as far as it follows from the visual inspection of the drained compartment. Cracks, detached coatings and corroded internal fittings are photographed and named.
